Privacy Policy

This explains what information edatr collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read, so it's as short and plain as we could make it.
1. What we collect
We only collect what we need to run edatr. Here's what that is and where it comes from.
From Discord, when you sign in. Your Discord user ID, username, display name, avatar and the email address on your Discord account. We also ask Discord for permission to add you to the edatr Discord server, so our bot can message you.
Your profile. Your name, birthday, gender, ethnicity, what you're looking for, your dating preferences (genders, ages and ethnicities you're interested in), the games you play and your favourites, your written prompts, and your photos.
Your location. If you allow it, your browser's precise location. Otherwise, an approximate location based on your IP address, or a city you pick. We store coordinates to suggest people near you, but only your city is ever shown on your profile.
What you do on edatr. Who you like, skip, remove or block; the message you send with a like; your matches; your chat messages; edate invites you send and accept; and reports you make.
Payments. If you subscribe to Premium, our payment processor Stripe handles your card. We never see or store your full card details; we keep your subscription status, plan and renewal date.
Settings and technical data. Your notification settings, small browser cookies that keep you signed in and remember things like a collapsed sidebar, and basic performance data about how pages load.
Some of this is sensitive, like your ethnicity and the genders you're interested in. You choose to share it so we can show you to the right people, and it's only used for that.
2. How we use it
We use your information to:
- Create your account and show your profile to people who might be a match.
- Check that new sign-ups come from the United States or Canada, using the approximate location of your IP address. We don't keep it.
- Suggest people based on your preferences, games and location.
- Run likes, matches, chats and edate invites.
- Send you Discord messages about new likes and matches, which you can turn off in Settings.
- Process Premium payments and give you its features.
- Keep edatr safe: check photos, review reports, and suspend or ban accounts that break our Community Guidelines.
- Answer you when you contact us, and fix problems with the app.
We don't sell your information, and we don't show ads.
3. Who we share it with
Other members see your profile: your name, age, city, gender, photos, prompts, games and what you're looking for, plus badges like Early Supporter. They never see your exact location, birthday, email or Discord username. Your Discord username is only shared with a match if you agree to it when planning an edate.
Your matches see the messages you send them.
Service providers who run parts of edatr for us, only for that purpose:
- Supabase: our database, file storage and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosting the website, and estimating your location from your IP address.
- Discord: signing in, and sending you messages from our bot.
- Stripe: payments for Premium.
- OpenAI: automatically checking profile photos for content that breaks our rules. Only photos are sent; chats are not.
- An email provider: our support inbox, when you email us.
When the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety, for example responding to a valid legal request, or reporting child sexual abuse material to the authorities.
If edatr is ever sold or merged with another company, your information may transfer as part of that, and this policy would still apply to it.
4. Safety and moderation
Photo checks. When you add a profile photo, it's checked automatically before anyone else sees it. Photos that might break our rules are held for our team to review, and your profile is hidden from new people until then.
Reports. When someone reports another member, we save a copy of the reported profile and the recent messages between the two of them, so our team can see what happened. We only look at chats when they're part of a report; we don't read conversations otherwise.
Enforcement. We may suspend or permanently ban accounts that break our rules. If you think we got it wrong, email support@edatr.gg.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, likes, matches and messages within 30 days.
- Reports, including the saved copy of the profile and messages, are kept for up to one year after the report, even if either account is deleted, so we can deal with repeat abuse.
- Payment and tax records are kept as long as the law requires.
6. Your choices and rights
You can:
- See and change your profile at any time in the app.
- Turn off Discord notifications in Settings.
- Delete your account and its information. Until this is in the app, email us and we'll do it.
Email support@edatr.gg for any of these. We'll confirm it's really you, usually through your Discord account, and reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example California or Canada), you may have more rights, and you can complain to your local privacy regulator.
7. Age requirement
edatr is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it and delete their information, except what we need to keep for safety.
8. Security and where it's stored
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and by limiting who on our team can see it. No service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong Discord password and two-factor authentication.
edatr is run from the United States, and our service providers store information in the United States. If you're in Canada, your information is processed there under this policy.
9. Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or on Discord before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
Questions? Email support@edatr.gg.
